Gibson ES-335 Fat

2010 Gibson Custom Shop ES-335 Dot (ESDPA “Fat Neck”) in Vintage Sunburst in Excellent condition. But this guitar has been modified to make it better than new. The pickups were upgraded and now this guitar sports a set of Tom Holmes H450 / H455 pickups. These are regarded by many as being the best original Gibson PAF reproduction pickups ever made. They are no longer available from Tom Holmes. Look them up on Reverb—there isn’t a set listed for under $1000.  Most are closer to $1500.00. They sound amazing, especially in this guitar. The sound is big and clear with perfect string to string balance. Whether clean or overdriven, they sound phenomenal.

Below is a description of the ES-335 “Fat Neck” from Sweetwater

The ES-335 "Fat Neck" - while not a full-on historic reissue - is tailored to be more like a vintage 1959 335 than the current production models. That starts with the thicker, '50s-style neck carve made of mahogany. The Fat Neck also sports a thinner body style that's much closer to the style of a vintage '59 335.

Fatter is Better
The ES-335 Fat Neck sports a chunkier neck more similar to the original 1958 ES-335 neck. The fatter the neck, the fatter the tone, and these 335s are chock full of tone!

The guitar is very resonant and loud acoustically—characteristics of a high-quality instrument.  I think the meaty neck on this one adds a lot to the sound.  Aesthetically it is in excellent condition for its age.  There are some light pick swirls on the pickguard and very light blemish on the top located near strap pin that is hard to photograph. The back of the guitar looks nearly perfect with one light blemish toward the top near the waist that was also hard to photograph. The frets are in excellent condition. The rosewood fretboard is smooth with a nice grain. For a 14-year-old guitar it shows very little play wear. The original Custom Shop case is still in very good condition. The handle has a split. I can’t tell if it’s just the covering or more, but the handle is solid.  Otherwise, the case is in great condition. The guitar comes with a COA.

I have hardly played this guitar since I bought it. My band broke up before I purchased it, and I haven’t been in one since. It’s never left my humidity-controlled studio and has spent nearly its entire time in its case. A new home purchase is causing me to have to sell some of my prized guitars. Since I have less than a couple of hours play time on it, this is one that I am reluctantly letting go.
